In the wilds of Old Virginia, the shadows whisper of rebellion. The air may be heavy with discontent, but Maia Avalos only feels the burn of whiskey as she grieves her mother over another glass. One night, a rebel approaches her to finish the fight her father started against Portico—the tyrannical law-and-order of the land. Determined to prove she’s worthy to carve her mark on the world and avenge her parents' deaths, Maia takes his offer, making her Portico’s new target.

Now part of the lawless world of the rebels, Maia recruits a bruised-up gambler, a vengeful brothel madame, and an ex-bounty hunter, placing her life in their deceitful hands. When Maia and her team are the sole survivors of a heist meant to tip the scales in the rebellion’s favor, she realizes the only way to destroy Portico is from within. Once inside, she’s pulled into a dangerous game of manipulation, making her question if she’s fighting on the right side of history.

Some stories are meant to be written in prose. Hers will be written in blood.

Content/Trigger Warnings

While The Legacies of Traitors primary theme is creating hope, there are several thematic elements that, while handled with care, are recommended for mature audiences. The story contains depictions of medical errors, substance abuse, grief, depression, anxiety, oppression, violence, plague, torture, PTSD, and sexual acts.

THE LEGACIES OF TRAITORS is a gritty new adult dystopian with a nature-reborn post-apocalyptic world, rebellion/political resistance, morally gray female protagonist and found family, heist gone wrong, secret identities, darker tone, court politics, and slow-burn Latine enemies-to-lovers.

Art By: J. Leyva

A wooden sign with inverted corners and a golden half sun design in the center with the text "Portico Trading Company" burned into the wood designed in a half moon within the center of the sun. In the center under the text is a scrolled "P" burned into the wood design and on both sides are stars. Art is by J. Leyva.

I can't believe it's over! This book single-handedly reignited my love for dystopians.

Early Reader Reviews

You are the master of a slow burn! Like, every lingering touch, every averted gaze... I'm screaming that this is finally happening and have chills!

Kayla, Beta Reader

There is so much nuance and moral question in your novel that makes it stand out from others that I have read! This book literally had everything from politics to heists!
